How to Survive a Spending Ban (ish)

Saturday, 1 April 2017
Let's be honest we all hate spending bans, even though in theory you'll save money in the long run. I went on one after a rather indulgent Christmas sale period and I should be finishing very soon, just in time to treat myself during and after my dreaded exams! So I thought I would share some tips I use to help with my spending ban in hope that they help you.

  1.  Use those loyalty cards!
You know the ones I mean: Boots, Debenhams, Costa, TheBodyShop, Superdrug, you name it you have it. I often forget to use my points so when I'm on a spending ban if I want to treat myself I use them. It's not technically cheating as it's not actual money, don't you think?

  2. Count the pennies!
Every penny counts, especially if you save them all up. If you're more dedicated have a google of the 365 Penny Challenge to get you started, or perhaps try saving every £5 note you get as they'll soon add up. Loose change is annoying to have so find a pretty jar or dish to collect your petty cash.

  3. Look for the deals!
Student discount is a godsend for me, loads of places do them. However, lots of places have deals as long as you're signed up to all the newsletters. I've ordered from TooFaced before and my order came with a 20% off code, and currently FeelUnique have a great beauty sample service for under £4.

  4. Free samples!
This usually works mostly for beauty products. Many counter will offer samples of products in hope that you'll buy them later on, similarly, if you can't justify that expensive skincare from Lush, kindly ask the staff usually they're more than happy to help.

  5. A personal favourite of mine lately, instead of buying more products I just rotate my drawers round. I've rediscovered new lipsticks, base products, the works. You would be surprised just how effective rotating your stash proves.

I'll admit, I may break a spending ban every now and then, but don't we all really? If you're currently on one let me know how it's going!

  1. All great tips. I enjoy rotating my stash too and keeping it all looking in tip top condition so it's like using something new each time xx

  2. Nice tips! I thought I was having a spending ban for myself when I found out I needed a new foundation. The spending ban will happen after this next purchase (this sounds so silly that is almost hilarious)...
