My Makeup Obsession Palette

Wednesday, 19 July 2017
If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen this palette pop up a couple of times because I do rather like it and it photographs well. The selection of shades are all my own thanks to the fact that this palette allows you to DIY a palette to include only shades you want. I wrote previously in the year about the first three shades I had added to my Makeup Obsession palette and now I've finished it I thought I might as well bring you up to speed.

Creating a palette personal to you be expensive, I'm looking at you MAC - £10 a shadow kind of expensive, and that's without the basic palette. Makeup Obsession is nowhere near that price, and the quality is still great. You start by choosing a palette size, medium holds 6 and large holds 12, the palettes are between £4-£8 depending on size and finish. I managed to get a white one which doesn't really match the black inserts so that's something to think about. You then choose the inserts: either eyeshadow £2, highlighter £3, contour cream/powder £3, blush £3 or lipstick £2. It works out that if you bought the most expensive palette at £8 and filled it with all £3 inserts your total would be £44 which seems quite steep, but when you break it down you're getting 12 shades, of your choice. A MAC palette would end up somewhere in the region of £130. So there is definitely a distinct difference in price, also the MAC pro palette shadows only have 1.5g of product while the Makeup Obsession ones have 2g.

So here is my complete palette, it contains five shadows and one highlighter. The top row L-R are Scene, Bourbon Brown and Rare. The bottom row L-R are New York, Burnt and Bare, Bare being the highlighter. Two mattes and four shimmers, I think the palette works quite well together, with the exception of New York which is the most gorgeous purple I've ever seen.

I do really like the idea of the clip in shadows so you can customise it how you want, but I do warn you: it's not useful when on the go. As the shadows clip in so you can see the bottom I often find that simple holding the palette will cause the inserts to pop out which is slightly annoying, but I suppose it is the price you have to pay for the customisation option.

Makeup Obsession Palette Swatches

Now for the fun bit the swatches, (and my attempt at describing them.) The top shade is Scene, it's a beautiful light orange shimmery shade, it's not the most pigmented but it give a really pretty glow. Next is Rare a coppery orange shimmer it is so pigmented, and perfect for packing onto the eyelid. The next is Burnt and a warm toned matte orange shade. It makes for a perfect transition shade too. The next swatch is of Bare, the only highlighter I have from Makeup Obsession. It is my perfect highlight shade, champagne but with a slightly lighter undertone. Next is the gorgeous New York, this is only one finger swatch and you can very easily pack it on to make it intense as hell. Finally, is Bourbon Brown, plain and simple it is a matte brown which I tend to use in the crease. Overall, the shades swatch so well, as well as looking pretty on the eyes. Obviously, there is some fall out, as is to be expected with cheaper formula's but if you can look past that they're really rather good.

I would recommend this concept if you like trying out lots of colours as it is quite an inexpensive way to do it and still get a decent amount of product. Also to those just starting out with makeup who want some basic shades which aren't going to cost a fortune. I hope you liked the colours in my palette.
