My Spending Ban and Project Pan

Thursday, 31 August 2017
I start uni in less than a month, which is both terrifying and exciting. But it also means I'm going to have considerably less money than I'm used to and so I've decided: I'm on a spending ban.

Spending Ban and Project Pan

My tuition is completely covered by student loan, but my living expenses aren't covered by my maintenance loan, so I'm going to have to make some significant savings. My parents are willing to help me out so I survive on the necessities, but unsurprisingly that doesn't include my impulse purchases. (Much as I would like to argue concealer is a necessity, I'm not sure they would agree.)

Because of my changing financial situation, and the need to keep spending to a minimum, I am starting a spending ban. This ban will run from tomorrow, the 1st of September all the way to the 24th of November (aka Black Friday!) I have birthdays to buy for between now and then but I've already budgeted money in for that. The rules of the ban are that I am not allowed to by myself anything that isn't considered necessary. For example, toothpaste and soap are allowed, whereas mascara and the latest gift set are not. It seems pretty fair. I'm hoping that the money I save will be able to go towards Christmas and also perhaps a weekend away somewhere nice in summer. A little ambitious perhaps, but I'm going to try my best.

Alongside my spending ban, I'm also going to be attempting project pan. If you haven't heard about it before, it's where you try to use up as many products as possible in an allotted time. So from the 1st of September to the 24th of November I will try to cut down my makeup collection via project pan. The plan is to go through and work out which bits are nearly empty and focus myself on using them. I've already had a makeup clear out this month, so working out bits to use should be easy. I was thinking I would do an empties post showing how well I did at the end of September.

Let me know if you're on a spending ban, or trying project pan too, then I know I'm not in this all on my own!
