Back to Basics: My Winter Skin

If you read my 2018 new year's resolutions you might have read that I have been neglecting my appearance, pretty much since I started university in October time. Now I love my makeup, as you might have guessed by the blog, so I want to get back into wearing it and here is what I'm wearing to do so.

Back to Basics Winter Skin

As with any good makeup look I will start with the base. If I have to leave quickly then I will mix my moisturiser (Clinique Moisture Surge) and foundation (Bourjois Healthy Mix) together, as then I get a hit of moisture and coverage all at once. If I have more time then I will do these steps separately. As it's winter my nose gets rather red and so needs a little help from a concealer (NYX HD Concealer) I dot it around the corners of my nose and tap it into the skin.

For the eyes I am sticking to quite a natural routine. Eyeshadow wise it's very minimal, if I feel like adding a little extra then I'll go in with an eyeshadow stick (TBS Eye Colour Stick) and smudge it out with my finger. The same with eyeliner, (Soap&Glory Smoulder Kohl) I'm favouring brown at the moment as it brings out the green in my eyes. I've strangely started liking the idea of lash primer and the good thing is that you can apply mascara over the top if you want to give a dramatic look. I usually go for lash primer (Benefit They're Real Lash Primer) if I'm going for a natural look, and then black mascara (Soap&Glory Thick&Fast).

Lips in winter 100% starts with lip balm, I don't have a specific favourite as anything will do at this point. Then if I want a little bit of colour I will either use a non sticky gloss (Clarins Lip Perfector) or will dab a lipstick (Charlotte Tilbury Miss Kensington) across my lips. Dabbing the lipsticks gives a gorgeous blotted lip look.

Finishing touches in winter aren't all that fancy. As I suffer with dry skin power isn't necessary, however I do like to add a subtle glow back to my skin with highlighter (Benefit Highbeam,) and if my skin isn't flushed enough because of the cold a dab of cream blush (KIKO Velvet Touch Creamy Stick Blush) really works. The only really 'out there' finishing touch I might add is a darker lipstick because I'm really loving how berry lips (NYX Copenhagen) look at the moment with fresh skin.

I really like this back to basics approach and hopefully my skin will thank me too. I feel a lot happier now I am playing with makeup again and my confidence is growing too.
