Back when I first started watching YouTube and reading blogs everyone used to rave about the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation. The only problem at the time was that the shade range was pitiful, (and to be honest still is.) Luckily they recently added a few new shades, one which I hoped would be light enough for me. My purchases were actually spurred on by the free gift offered by Superdrug if I spent £12 – which seemed like a decent deal to me.
The shade I have of the Healthy Mix foundation is shade 50. Sadly, it is still too dark for Casper over here, but it can be made to work for me when mixed in with a white moisturiser. It’s a medium coverage foundation for me, I still use a few dots of concealer when my skin is particularly problematic. I’ve mainly been applying this with a BeautyBlender, as it’s my favourite way to do so, and occasionally the BB/CC Cream brush from RealTechniques. It applies very nicely, but as most foundations tend to – it does cling to the dry patches around my nose. (If you have any foundation recommendations that won’t cling, that would be appreciated.) The only slight let down that this foundation has quite a strong scent which I’m not too much of a fan of.
To get the spend up to the £12 threshold I also picked up a new pencil sharpener. My old one is all covered in old makeup and doesn’t sharpen particularly well. This one is pink and even has a little scraper so you can get rid of all the left over product too.
The little set was really good value in the end. I got one of their Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks which surprised me a little because I thought it would be a very opaque red but it was quite sheer, albeit buildable. The polish was pretty good too. It was the only polish I really wore over Christmas, it didn’t need a million coats, and it didn’t chip straight away. When it eventually did I put a red, glittery BarryM polish over the top and saved it for a few more days. The Volume Reveal mascara is already one of my favourites, so much so that there is a whole post dedicated to the mascara coming soon. Definitely stay tuned for that one! I also love the added mirror on the side, it’s great for application on the go.
I’ve got to admit. Bourjois have definitely been a brand I’ve steered clear of. I think it’s because when I was younger it was on the pricier side of Boots and Superdrug, and didn’t cater for my pale skin. (To an extent it still doesn’t.) I’ll be honest though, the free gift has let me try a few products and I’ve rather liked them all so far. Perhaps this will be the year I give Bourjois more of a go. Let me know if you have any firm favourites I should try!
