Lasting Coverage? The Latest from Urban Decay

For someone who loves her base products, I’ve tried a relatively small amount from one of my favourite brands: Urban Decay. As a beauty blogger I’m always on the hunt for base products that make my skin look flawless, but don’t dry the skin out any further than mine already is. Urban Decay kindly sent me a few bits from their latest range, and that included three shades of the All Nighter concealer.

You might have noticed that I am on a base product and skincare kick at the moment, hence all the posts. I think that is because I am searching for the perfect base for me. The reason I focus on both base and skincare is as I find that to have one you have to have the other; I have dry skin and I can’t blame the foundation for picking up on certain dry patches, so I have to help out a little. (If you were wondering, my current favourite foundation is from NARS.)

The All Nighter concealer is an addition to the All Nighter range which started out with the cult favourite setting spray before adding a foundation. It was only logical they then expand into a concealer. The idea behind the range is pretty self explanatory, long lasting products that can last a night out, apparently this new offering is even waterproof. The shades they sent me were Fair Warm, Fair Neutral and Light Neutral. Light Neutral, unfortunately, was too dark for my skin so I am unable to use it, (and find it coincidentally…) Fair Warm is actually slightly darker than Fair Neutral which was quite interesting. Neither shade is light enough for me to use under the eyes but they are close enough to my skin tone for me to conceal with, which is alway a bonus. There are actually only 14 shades of the All Nighter concealer, and 24 of the foundation, which means you may struggle to find the perfect shade. However, the range does offer both warm and neutral undertones for each shade.

Make no mistake about the All Nighter concealer, it is the most full coverage concealer I have ever used. I reckon it could cover tattoos pretty easily. so under eye bags aren’t going to be a problem at all. The only problem I do have, is it can very easily look cakey – and no one wants that. If you were planning to cover anything that is potentially dry, this will grab onto it, I can only imagine this is because of the high coverage and the pigments used to achieve this finish. Also, if you are lucky enough to be able to use this under the eyes, I would suggest you do so with caution. The skin under your eyes is a lot thinner than the rest of the face and so can look unnatural if dehydrated when All Nighter concealer is applied.

I find I use this concealer most when I have a really, and I mean really, prominent breakouts. These are usually on the chin and I make sure I’ve used a really hydrating primer or oil beforehand. I think I would absolutely adore this if I could get my dry skin under control. Any product recommendations to do so will

be greatly appreciated. I can’t confirm or deny the waterproof claim as I tend not to go swimming in makeup, and on my upcoming trip to Spain I plan to wear as little makeup as possible.

I do quite enjoy the packaging, it’s quite abstract and of course matches the foundation. It’s also quite a thin tube which means it is travel appropriate – wedding touch up necessary? Sorted. The doe foot applicator is pretty standard, it’s not a concealer wand that could double as a foundation, here’s looking at you Shape Tape.

You get 3.5ml, which is a tiny amount considering the foundation is around £10 more expensive but containing almost ten times the amount of product. For reference, Collection’s Lasting Perfection Concealer has 6.5ml for under £5 and many believe this to be their holy grail. I admit, £20 for a concealer is a scary amount, but I think this is ideal for occasion wear; if you need to look flawless for a wedding, this is the concealer for you. Urban Decay have created the All Nighter Concealer to be the full coverage solution we’ve been looking for, just make sure your skin is ready for it.

You can find the Urban Decay All Nighter Concealer on the Urban Decay website for £20.
